Car Camp/two day hikes (camp is weather dependent - we could still hike)

  • Jun 14, 2013 · 2:00 PM

**Campsites are first come first served.  There are several informal campsites near Beverly Campground so not to worry about space.  The campground rarely fills up.  We can put 2-3 tents on each site.**

Directions:  I-90 East to East Cle Elum exit 85; left and cross overpass.  Right on 970 about 5-6 miles to left on Teanaway Road.  Pavement ends at 29 Pines campground.  Go straight - road turns to dirt.  Was in good shape last year but might have more potholes again this year.  Follow it another four miles or so to Beverly Campground on the right side.

North Teanaway - current conditions note that the meltout is moving along quickly so most spots would not need spikes or snowshoes; lots of big, informal camping sites or Beverly Campground - would like to do Miller Peak and Koppen Mtn, but there may still be a lot of snow.  Medras Pass is a nice hike and might be snow free.  Miller Peak would be the hardest of those.  A bit further drive gets one to Yellow and Elbow Hills - usually lovely at this time of year - flower show and views.

Campground Descriptions: Beverly CG has two vault toilets, is on the creek for water - need filter, and has several sites = $8 per night.  There are hikes for all abilities in that area.  I have hiked almost all the trails there at least once so I can help you plan.  We will most likely have different groups going to different places.

**Assuming it's a go, anyone want to organize a potluck for Sat. night?  Menus paralyze me LOL.**

Bring: wood for the fire if you have it, water (just in case), microspikes and snowshows if you have them because it may still be icy or snowy in some of these places; overnight gear:  tent, warm sleeping bag, mattress, pillow, camp stove, food for two days, water filter or bottled water, dogs ok if behave well around lots of people, drinks if you want them; BYOB if you want to drink; be considerate of people sleeping between 10 pm and 7 a.m. please

Carpools: I can leave from Woodinville around 1:30 - 2 and can meet others along the way such as a Park and Ride along 405 or 90.  I would like to stop only once so it depends on how many people can meet where.  I have a Subaru Legacy so can probably squeeze in two others for sure - maybe three if we keep gear to a minimum.

NO guarantees as to return time Sunday.  If you must be back by a certain time, please note that and try to find other attendees who have the same schedule.  Ideally, we would be back early evening since most of us have to work the next day, but I don't want to be stuck with a particular time.

Plan to go if you're on the waitlist as someone usually drops out last minute.  There is no particular limit in a campground - just who gets there first.  Hopefully, we can share tents and/or put a couple tents on one site.

**Please vote for your choice/suggest carpool meeting spots and times that work for you; are you willing to drive/have dogs in your car**  Write all this in the comment section please as that way we can all see.

Anyone knows if there is gonna be cellular signal at the campground or nearby? I need to make an important Skype call from my phone on Saturday at 1pm. Otherwise, I'll have to pass on this whole fun...

    • Kari

I can't be sure. If there isn't, you'd just have to drive back a few minutes to the zone.

Where is the location of the campsite? Where and when is the meetup? Your directions are ambiguous. What are the directions to the site from Port Townsend, WA..

    • Kari

Sorry, I had this posted on 3 meetups and thought I had updated all of them, but I missed it on this one :{. It's a long haul from PT. I posted the directions from I-90. You'd just have to get yourself to I-90.

Beverly campground is beautiful, with room for at least 3 tents on every site. NO WATER IS AVAILABLE.

    June 11, 2013

    • Kari

There is a creek running through it so I did list filters or water as an item to bring.

Is there a backup plan for camping spots if the place is full? Will it get full? Should I reserve a spot?

    June 11, 2013

    • Kari

No reservations possible, but it rarely gets full. There are several nearby sites. I have never seen it all full even on holiday weekends.

Hello all, I'm going to be leaving on Friday around 12:00ish from the Woodinville/ Lynnwood area. I can be flexible on times if someone needs a ride. I'm in no hurry. I have a pickup truck with room for 2. Also, I have to be back in Seattle area at 5:00pm on Saturday which I'm not flexible with at all. Let me know if I can help with the carpool. Later.

I'll be coming from Seattle Friday afternoon and have room to spare in my van for carpooling.

    May 27, 2013

    • Kari

The exact date is the weekend it's posted for - Fathers' Day weekend. We'd head out Fri; return Sunday. I guess there is another group thread here about this coming weekend (May 31) also so reply to that one separately if interested.

I'm enthusiastic about this "walk about." I'd like to combine car camping w/ hiking. I'm looking forward to "chatting up any English blokes." My preference is for weekends.

Would it be possible to organize a dog friendly overnight camping or backpacking trip? My dog and I are beginners but we really want to do an overnight somewhere.

      1 · May 25, 2013

    • Kari

This one is dog friendly. With so many interested people, I'm thinking car camp and day hikes.

How about car camping at Gold Basin.” it is at the Mountain loop highway and there are many nice trails in trail area (lake 22; ice caves, etc).http://www.forestcamping.com/dow/pacficnw/

    May 23, 2013

    • Kari

I live right by there plus many trails are still snowed in on this side, but I bet some people would be interested in this :D.
