Basically this paddle will be to Deer Island and back after taking a break and checking out the island. We may deviate on the way there, or when returning, depending on how adventurous the group is. There are so many little islands in the area to explore it's hard to ignore the temptation. On many occasion we've seen dolphins, turtles, stingrays and numerous birds. This is considered an open water paddle so be prepared for anything including sudden changes in the weather and water conditions. That being said don't forget your pfd and a whistle (required by law!). Also you'll want to bring sunblock, bug spray, water, hat, sunglasses, a snack and camera!
To get there from 19 take CR24 west for 18.7 miles, then turn right onto CR347 (There's a sign for Lower Suwannee Wildlife Refuge). Follow CR347 for about 2.5 miles and turn left onto CR326 (Also a sign for Shell Mound). Follow CR326 west 3 miles to the campground then continue on the dirt road for little more than 1/3 mile to the boat ramp.
Paddling in this area depends on timing the tides just right so please be on time!
