Hey guys! Hate to say this, but I've been watching the weather for Saturday and temps are supposed to drop to 35 Friday night into Sat morning. Highs eventually climbing up to 64 Sat afternoon. I don't mind the cold so much as the wind. Winds are supposed to be 10 to 15 mph. The combination doesn't make for pleasant paddling in open water. So sorry to say I will be canceling this trip and rescheduling it in the spring. I may consider posting a different trip for Saturday.

Hey guys, there is a place at the city beach that rents kayaks. It's about 15 minutes away from where we're launching so you'd have to arrange a way to get the kayak to Shell Mound. The guys name is Tom, his #[masked]-8447. The website is

So sorry I cannot go. I haven't gone on an activity with your group for a while. I'm watching grandsons while my son parties. Too bad. I just fixed up a kayak/canoe trailer for easy loading and hauling. Have two kayaks, so would love to share -- sometime down the road (river). Happy New Year.

You can bring your car right to the ramp, unload then park. And don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it!

Good question. Sorry I wasn't more specific in the write up. Deer island is only 1 mile away. But it can take up to an hour to get there. And that's if we go straight there. A lot depends on the wind and water conditions. Also depending on the group some people might want to island hop on the way out there. So that would take a little longer. But I don't plan on being out for more than 3 to 4 hours total. Have you much open water experience? Longer boats are preferred in open water but I've seen people do it with your size boat and smaller. Depends on the person paddling

I have great lakes kayaking experience so it should work. I will pick up a kayak skirt just to be safe.

Carol, how many miles is the kayak run and I have a 12 1/2 foot old town sit in kayak, would that work on the trip?
