Mayflower to Clinton Gulch
Distance: Approx 8 miles
Elevation gain: Approx 1,280 feet
High point: 12,000 feet
Rating: Moderate to Difficult
Since we got Rained out for this one we are going to try this again and hope for at least dry weather to start the hike.
Two glacier-carved amphitheaters await hikers on the Mayflower to Clinton Gulch loop. Boston mine camp, an early log mine camp with ruined cabins evocative of another era, makes a nice side trip for the longer hike and a fun destination for an easy, short hike.
Meet up at Wooly Mammoth parking Section BB at 7 am
for those of you not familiar with this location in Denver
Wooly Mammoth Lot, across from the Conoco, section BB. Exit 259 from I70 westbound. This is the Morrison Exit. Turn right onto Colfax, then make an immediate Left onto Mt Vernon Canyon Rd. Continue until you see the Conoco on the right, then enter the lot on the Left.
To get there take I 70 west to exit 195 at Copper Mountain toward Leadville drive Highway 91 south 6.2 miles from Interstate 70 Watch for the trailhead on your left. The turn comes up quickly after you glimpse the rock-walled deep valley that is Mayflower Gulch. Turn left carefully and park.
If you signed up for another hike on this day - do not sign up for this hike. It is rude and inconsiderate to sign up for multiple hikes, and decide at the last minute which hike you are going on. This gives fellow hikers on the wait list no notice when a spot opens up.
If you sign up - show up! My hikes are posted well in advance for your schedule. I plan to take attendance. If you decide not to go, you must cancel the Friday prior to the scheduled hike, or you will be considered a "no show." Three strikes and you are out.
If you do not sign up for a hike - do not show up for a hike. Some hikes have limits, plus you are taking the place of a fellow hiker on the wait list.
