Midweek Morning Hike

Pace: Moderate -- in our group that means up and down Atalaya in 2 1/2 hours or less, 4 miles, 1800' elevation gain.

We will go somewhere along Hyde Park Road or maybe the Tesuque River. We will choose a place depending on who shows up. If appropriate we will divide into a moderate and strenuous group. Dave leads the moderate group. There are many pretty options to choose from and we will accommodate people .

We always have a fun adventure. We will meet at 8:00 AM, hike for approximately 2 1/2 hours, and try to be back at the cars between 11:30 and 12:00.

Directions

We will meet on the street that goes INTO the Fort Marcy Complex, NOT the parking FOR the complex. This is so we don't use spaces they need for their patrons. Then we will carpool up somewhere, about a 10-15 minutes drive. If you look at maps.google.com it will get you close, but doesn't show the entrance road. Artist Road turns into the entrance road to the Fort Marcy Recreational Complex. So coming from downtown, make a left into the complex at the Artist Road light, and park on the side of the entrance road. Dave's cell is[masked] if you're lost or running late. NOTE: If you sign up as Yes, but can't make it PLEASE call me, so we don't wait unnecessarily. Thanks!

I'm not sure why I never show up as an attendee, but I did enjoy all of your company and the hike. Quite a fun group.

I really enjoyed that adventure hike yesterday! It was lots of fun meeting all of you! I will definitely be back for more :) Thank you for welcoming me and for all the great hiking tips re: equipment and suggestions on getting through the tougher parts of the non-trail ;)

I always love to explore a new area, and this was a great suggestion. Thanks Ed. Definitely some interesting terrain, but everyone did very well, especially our adventurous new members.

Terrific combination: conditioning hike, new territory, neat views, great folks. A totally fun day. Thanks Dave and Ed!

A new hike for most of us with more possibilities to come. Thanks, Dave!

Thanks again, Dave and Ed, for a new fun hiking experience.

Renate, your dogs would not have like the hike. Way too much cactus! Claudia had to carry hers quite a bit.

Sorry it was too late for me to come when the waiting list opened up a spot. I would not have made it in time.

Dave, are we going to be on snow where Baxter will get snow accumulation on his legs an undercarriage? Wilson wants to go also and I would love to meet Renate's Italian greyhounds

I'm aiming low tomorrow, so they should be OK.

Still on the waiting list, so you might meet my enthusiastic little IG hikers at a different hike :) they love other dogs and usually enjoy packing up!

Would like to join, can I bring my two little Italian Greyhounds to hike with us?

Renate. My dog rule is "I don't want to think about your dogs". That means they don't trip people on the trail, bark randomly at everything, attack other dogs, etc. If your dogs are able to do that, they are welcome.

Will I need more than hiking boots?

    • Dave G.

no, but traction devices are often useful at this time of year
