Details

Bobcat hikes are intended to be somewhat Easy (see SFHMG ratings for definition of easy): up to 6 miles and usually less than 800' elevation gain, with a Mellow Plus pace: that is, equivalent to doing Atalaya in under 3 hours, thus affording a more intimate experience with the trail.

Description: Bobcatting Piedra Lisa
Round Trip Hiking Distance: 4 miles
Round Trip Hiking Time: 3.0 hours
Elevations: 6900'-8,100'
Gain: 1200 ft.
Rating: Moderate Plus

Please know your Atalaya ability before RSVPing. Be considerate of others, and do not RSVP for this hike if you cannot go up and down Atalaya in under 3 hours. The Hike Effort and Pace Description, under Hiking With Us, is a criteria that better helps us to stay together as a group, and thus enhancing the hiking experience for everyone. It is not about competition, but cooperation.

Hike Description: The Piedra Lisa Trail is located in the Sandias, near Albuquerque, an hour south of Santa Fe. We will be doing only the first portion of the trail, which ascends steadily thru Pinons and junipers. The views are great, as on one side we'll see the Rio Grande Rift and on the other interesting granite formations including the Shield and the Thumb. We'll stop at a saddle featuring viewpoints of the Sangres, take a snack/lunch break and head back as we came. While the trail is accommodating, and we'll take frequent short breathers, this hike will still give you a good cardio work out on the way up and exercise your quads on the way down.

What to bring:
Sturdy hiking boots or shoes.
Note: Yaktraks or similar may be needed by hike day.
