Stroll Along Candy Cane Lane

Candy Cane Lane is a must-see every Christmas in Edmonton. About 8 blocks of 148th Street are fully decorated with the most spectacular Christmas decorations anywhere. It's a treat for everyone - kids, parents, grandparents, and pets. That's right, you're welcome to bring your dog or pet ferret (or whatever) along for the stroll. But if you plan to go to the dinner afterward, you'll have to make arrangements for your pet.

We'll meet by the Royal Bank in the IGA parking lot at 6:15, and then at 6:30, we'll head off through the Parkview neighbourhood to Candy Cane Lane, about 6 blocks away. It will take us about an hour and a half to two hours to stroll down both sides of the Lane and back to our cars.

Be sure to wear warm clothing, especially footwear, to suit the weather. The stroll will be slow, so don't depend on energetic walking to keep you warm. The sidewalks get a lot of traffic, so they might be slippery. Bring your camera, too. The photo opportunities are endless.

There will be large collection boxes for the Food Bank. Bring along some non-perishable, freeze-tolerant items, to help the less fortunate in our community have a Merry Christmas. There's no event fee for this walk, so put your two bucks toward a gift for the Food Bank.

After a few hours strolling in the cold, how would you like to warm up with some of Edmonton's finest Italian fare? See the following event (Christmas Dinner at Picco Lino) for details.

These two events are both sponsored jointly by the Fit & Active 50 + or -, Edmonton Coffee, and Edmonton Hiking/Walking Meetup groups. If you belong to more than one of these groups, please RSVP only through one of them, so I get an accurate overall count. Thanks.
