10 mile (roundtrip), 1000 ft. gain hike from the East Fork Trail Head to the Bridge to Nowhere. SLOWPOKE paced hike along the wild and beautiful East Fork of the San Gabriel River through the Sheep Mountain Wilderness area. Some boulder hopping, rock scrambling, and 10+ stream crossings. The hike will take roughly 9-10 hours (including a few short breaks and a long 1-2 hour lunch break)(not including driving time to the trailhead). It takes about 30 minutes to drive to the trailhead from the rideshare point we are meeting at in Azusa (directions below).

SPECIAL FOR TROLLS: (Trolls are the little people who live under bridges): Instead of taking the usual way back (the same way we went in), we will go back starting from UNDER the bridge. This way there will be a chute (spot where the canyon/river is very narrow) near the bridge where we will have to walk through water 4-5 feet deep for a few feet, or possibly swim (depending on the water level). There may be one or two more spots where we have to walk in deeper water or swim a few feet again. This way is more scenic and really fun!! You must not mind getting WET!!!!!!!! You may want t to put your belongings in "dry bags" or plastic bags or just don't take anything that isn't waterproof. There are only a couple places we have to get wet, and not for very long, buy you WILL get WET!!

***On the way back we will pass Horseshoe Mine and to the waterfall in Devil's Gulch (there is a 60' waterfall just 5-10 minutes into Devil's Gulch).

There is only a short period of time during the year where the water level is low enough to go this way (otherwise the water is too swift in the chute and it is dangerous).**** IF for any reason it does not seem safe this way we will turn around and go back the usual way (Safety First). I have gone this way a few times before and it was FUN and beautiful!

Note: You WILL get WET! This is a challenging hike mainly because it is long- you will need energy! If you think you might want to go faster than the leader and stray from the group, please don't sign up for this hike. For social and safety reasons I would like the group to stay together. Slowpokes only! If you have someplace you need to be at a certain time or something to do after the hike that requires energy- please do not sign up for this hike.

BRING: At least 2 quarts water, lunch and snacks, a change of clothes for during or after the hike (since you will be wet), hiking shoes or boots that can get wet, flashlight or headlamp (just-in-case), dry bags or plastic bags to waterproof your stuff just-in-case. We may go out to eat after the hike (Azusa or nearby). You will need an ADVENTURE PASS if you plan on driving to the trailhead from the rideshare point. They can be purchased from Sport Chalet or REI or any ranger station. There is a booth to buy them at in Azusa, but you can't always depend on it being open.

Directions to the RIDESHARE POINT in Azusa: from the westside: 105 or 10 east, 605 north, 210 east, exit at Azusa Av. Go north (left) toward the mountains.
