Have you ever wondered how the Bay Area Ridge Trail traverses San Francisco? Are you thinking of a way to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge? Do you need a warm up for Ridge to Bridge the following week? Do you want to celebrate Earth Day by using public transit to get you to the trailhead and then back to your home at the end of your hike? Then join the Lake to Gate Hike on April 21.

The one-way 14-mile hike will take you on the Ridge Trail route from Lake Merced to the Golden Gate Bridge. Map your public transit route there using ( ) or the Transit & Trails App for your iPhone ( or Android (

At the end of the hike (the Golden Gate Bridge), you can easily catch a bus back in whatever direction you need to go. The Transit & Trails App can help you figure out which bus will work best for you. Or use before you come using this link:

If you take BART to get to the starting/meeting point, please follow these direction from the Daly City BART station. After exiting the station, walk south a short distance and descend into a pedestrian tunnel that will bring you to the south side of John Daly Blvd. Follow John Daly Blvd across I-280 in the direction of the ocean. In approximately one mile you will arrive at Lake Merced Blvd, directly across from the Westlake Mall.

Gather at 9 AM at the northeast corner of John Daly Blvd and Lake Merced Blvd.

This hike will be at your own pace using the directions and maps available online:

You may either bring your lunch or eat at restaurants along the way.

If you decide the hike is too long for you, you can always hop on public transit. The best places to get on transit are from the West Portal Metro Station or Haight Street. Use the Transit & Trails App to find your location and map your transit home.
