Hike # 11 - Stinson Beach & Tamalpais Cataract Falls ~ 12.8 Miles

NOTE ON MY CAR WINDSHIELD FOR THOSE THAT COME LATE (After ~10:15AM) BUT WILL WAIT IF YOU CALL ME IN TIME.

The Hike: This is an advanced hikers hike. I can make an alternative shorter loop for some of the less advanced hikers but it will still be a tough climb. Email me if interested in the easier hike. We'll start clockwise from Matt Davis Travel connecting to the Ridge Trail (Coastal Trail) till we connect over to the Cataract Trail. We'll take a break at Alpine Lake near the start of the Cataract Trail. See the file below for trail details
http://files.meetup.c...

Parking: Take Highway 101 to the Highway 1/ Stinson Beach Exit. Stay on 1 all the way to Stinson Beach or alternatively you can also reach Stinson beach on the Panaromic Highway. More interesting ocean views are along the HWY 1 and redwood views on the Panaromic HWY. Once in Stinson Beach, on HWY 1, turn left at the sign that says "Stinson Beach Park" and park in there and look for my dark blue honda CRV, where we will gather. There may be a parking fee(~5-6$.) We'll walk together to the Matt Davis Trailhead on Belvedere. See map below for the street crossing to turn left on.

Meeting point: I'll try to be visible at the Stinson Beach Park parking area. Call if you are running late or get lost at[masked]

Optional After hike event: There a couple of places, at least, in Stinson we can vote on when it's time.

This was a beautiful hike with a fun, well-prepared group of people! There were lots of different types of terrain. Cataract Falls was flowing despite low rainfall this season. It was a longer hike than I expected in terms of duration. Here's a list of things I wish I'd brought, for future reference

    - More water (1 liter is not enough because there was no place to refill)
    - A headlamp, because the days are so short and you don't want to be caught in the woods at night without a light
    - Moleskin, in case I start to get a blister

It was a great hike: very challenging, fun & interesting group. Hugo is a great guide/organizer, as always. I'm also learning how to translate his estimates :)

Longer than expected, but the extra challenge, variety of views, and fun people made it an awesome experience. My favorite hike so far!

Mt Tam offers an unmatched variety of terrain and scenery. Today was a reminder why it's at the top of my list of favorite places to hike. Add in a great group and shorts & t-shirt weather and you can't ask for more. Thanks, Hugo!

The hike route planned actually turned out to be ~15miles after counting in all the switchbacks and finer details of the trail I could not map.

This was an amazing hike from the beach to the top of Mt. Tam. A great variety of beautiful views and scenery. Hugo was a friendly, well prepared guide that kept the group together at a solid pace.
