St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge, Island Day Trip

  • Indian Pass Campgrounds

2817 Indian Pass Road, Port Saint Joe, FL (map)

    0.000000 0.000000

  • Go to the end of SR 30-B, Indian Pass Campgrounds. You will see a boat ramp there. The shuttle boat will be near there.

Carpool: 6:30am CST – Walmart in Calloway. We will be in EASTERN time zone at the Island.

Meet at Indian Pass Campgrounds where we will take the shuttle to the Island, the shuttle is $10pp. The tour will start on the island at about 9am EASTERN. We are on an open wagon with stadium style seating. In January it can be very chilly, so dress accordingly. There is no potable water on the island & only composting toilets at the beginning & mid -way through the tour. We follow about 9 miles of dirt track to West Pass at the eastern side of the island, stop for lunch at a cabin, then return 9 miles to the island boat arrival area about 1-2pm EASTERN where the island shuttle takes us back to Indian Pass.

The Supporters of St. Vincent Island NWR friends group was established in 2007 to provide support for the St Vincent Island National Wildlife Refuge. To support environmental activities that include education, recreation and increased understanding of the history and natural environment of the St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge.

The tour itself does not cost, but they do accept voluntary donations that are used to defray the cost of fuel, equipment and other needs.

Bring water, snacks or lunch. I suggest closed toe shoes, a cushion or something to sit on in the wagon, warm clothes & head wear, maybe sun screen and/or insect repellent depending on temperature.

There is only one trolley. Our date was worked into their already full schedule.

With so many on the waiting list, is there any way to do two groups?

There is a maximum number of people the tram can hold. Looks like there might be more interest than seats.

Hey Eric:) This is a fantastic place but I would hope one day it can be a hike or bike and not the tour. The tour is good (I have done it) to learn the history of the Island which is fascinating but the best way to recreate on the Island is via bicycle. There are hiking trials there of course but I don't recommend this vs biking for several reasons. Let me know if you ever want to bike it. Would be happy to show you and/or others around. In my opinion it is one of the all time best places to bike in Florida.
