New Member Approval
Membership is for Christian homeschool families. Dads are more than welcome to join, although I think primarily it will be moms contributing to discussions and attending events.
New members must fill out all profile questions before being approved for membership.
This has several purposes:
We want Homeschool Village to be a safe, welcoming place for families to meet people and make new friends. But, this is a virtual community and we want to keep this group free of lurkers and prowlers. The best way to do that is have each potential member fill out a questionnaire.
Let us know who you are with your introduction. We have found that someone that isn't willing to fill out a short introduction is less likely to be an active member or take ownership in the group.
At events we are looking for you as much as you are looking for us. Add your picture to your profile. No one except for members of our group will be able to see your picture. This will also help people identify you at events. Especially in the beginning when people are still getting to know you this is very helpful
RSVP accountability is a major priority in our group. Please be courteous to other members who will be looking for you at an event. If something comes up, please try to give other members 24 hours notice as they are planning to meet up. We do understand that having kids, means things will come up that are out of our control and in these circumstances, grace abounds.
We are assessing $5/year dues to cover the costs of Meetup. Dues must be paid within 45 days of joining the group. This should give new members a chance to try out Homeschool Village and make the decision if this is a fit for their family.
We also want members to be actively involved. Whether you are involved on the message board, virtual events or actual meetup events we want you to be an active role in the group. Members who show now activity for three months (on the message board or attending/involved in an event) will be removed from the group. As in everything, grace abounds and if you have extenuating circumstances that keep you from being involved, please email Tara to let her know.
The majority Homeschool Village's events are in the following areas of the Northwest Suburbs: Elk Grove Village, Schaumburg, Arlington Heights, Des Plaines, Mount Prospect ,Roselle, Bloomingdale, Addison, Rolling Meadows, Itasca, Wooddale, Palatine, Streamwood and Lake Zurich. We will have events in other areas as well, but the majority will be in the above mentioned towns.
We encourage you to take pictures and post your favorite ones to the events. Please note, since this is a private meetup, anything posted to the site including pictures, bios, message board posts and attendees to events is limited to being viewed by members of this meetup only. If you do not want photos of your child displayed on our site, please let Tara know.
Message Board Etiquette
We would love for each member to be active part of the message board. In keeping with the theme, "it takes a village to raise a child," what better way to minister to and help each other than a central place where we can connect a couple of times a week or even more.
That being said, please be respectful of each other on the message board. We look forward to an active message board where everyone can ask questions, give advice and share experiences with everyone. Try and reread your post before you submit it, sometimes the smallest thing can be taken out of context. Those who display rude or inflammatory behavior will be removed from the group.
We look forward to meeting you and your family. Homeschool Village is here for you as much as it is for anyone else. Let us know if there is an event you would like to have posted on our calendar. Collectively we can make this the most successful homeschool meetup in the area.
