Why do you have an interest in the San Diego Homesteaders Meetup Group?

I have had to make serious dietary/lifestyle changes due to recent health issues, allowing me to understand and develop great interest in the healing and beneficial properties that plants provide. I've been very consumed with fermented foods lately and have began making my own sauerkraut, pickled beets, radishes, carrots and cucumbers as well as reading about other fermented d.i.y. initiated projects (and my mom just gave me a german ceramic crock!). So with all of that said, I want to create a closer relationship to what I consume and put on my body (what you put on your skin is equally important, why would you put something on your body that is toxic to ingest), and in my home. So that goes beyond food, and includes cleaning products and anything applied to the skin (shampoo, lotion etc.). While at the same time developing stronger community reliant relationships based upon ideals of sharing/exchange of knowledge and goods, to create empowerment and a higher level of self sufficiency

Would you consider proposing meetup ideas?

Yes, most definitely. I am also very interested in food politics and the artists role as activist where the sector of food traditions of communities and art combine.

What experience do you have with Homesteading or Gardening?

I volunteer for a non-profit in San Francisco (where I live, but am originally from San Diego and come down often), called free farm stand (san francisco) in which we collect excess organic produce from farmers markets and give it away for free. I also have volunteered at the Hayes Valley Farm (also san francisco) and just do basic gardening, and at times help my mom with her vegetable garden (and learn a bit from that), but in terms of individual gardening the extent is only within your basic house plant care, and light outdoor plant care. I also recently moved into a studio in Oakland with a very large empty lot that the landlord purchased with the plans of developing a vegetable garden/art space (I was really lucky to find this place because art and food are up there in terms of importance, what I live for).

Artist who wants to become as self sufficient as possible (in terms of food and other various household related articles/practices i.e. self made cleaning products, sewing, d.i.y. driven resourceful endeavors/creations to develop good relationships
