The meaning of abstract art

Its been a long two weeks with so many fairs, events and talks that has left me rather bemused, and I suspect you also with many more questions than answers. It is with that in mind that Art Expert Talks are presenting a series of free talks on the purpose and meaning of art, we will start with abstracts , those which people find most daunting to understand. As with most things, abstract fall into categories, these can be defined by genre but essential technique plays an important part in abstract painting, here as some examples for you to explore if you wish ( Auerbach, Bacon and Richter, Morandi ) these are direct painters, ie they apply and make the painting with paint on canvass. Many of the "newer" artists have used techniques in a different way, sadly many with photo shop and mechanical techniques....these are certainly worth exploring in our talks however in my opinion contemporary art with mechanical help such as multiples with computer help will not stand the test of time compered to the old masters. In addition we can discuss "print " techniques but because its such a big subject that its better perhaps to leave for the next talk.

Ok la.....see you then.
ps he s a pochoir( stencilled) grafitti which I quite like for its technique which appeared on some walls around Shueng Wan " the commemoration and change of the law for marriage of same sex couples in France...see what you think?
Thank you to those of you who came to hear me talk at the Four Seasons at Yashian Schaube's event.

Thanks for organising, sounds interesting. Will try to make it. Will this be more of a lecture or a group discussion? Thanks.

Thanks to Jennifer and Michelle for allowing me to post this.
ZZHK is easy to find......on Hollwood road on the Shueng Wan side is a new Pacific Coffee, that marks the start of Wa Lane, all you have to do is go to Shueng Wan, look for Pacific Coffee and look for the Gallery sign.
