  • Double exposure photography is fun and creative, yet a challenging technique popularised with film cameras dating back almost 200 years! For this outing, I would like us to all try to do in-camera double exposures (if possible).

Fear not if your camera does not do double exposures! You can still join the outing and use either an app on your pc like photoshop or your smartphone, there are many apps for your mobile that will let you take double exposure photographs (without editing)

One of the most popular and often over-used double exposure techniques is the double exposure silhouette, the first frame is typically a person's silhouette, this first shot needs to be carefully shot as to be a strong black/white silhouette (please see the below links) and the second frame is typically another element, texture or better yet something on topic related to the first frame.

But you can use double exposure photography for so many interesting types of photos! One technique that I love, is playing with geometry when taking double exposure photographs, any pictures with strong leading lines will take on a whole new dimension when added into a double exposure.

Ghosting, by combining multiple similar or same scenes superimposed over one another also looks impressive. You can also do amazing things with landscapes or streetscapes, even make your own Dr Strange-esque photos!

These are my samples, that I took last Friday (Friday 18th) during location scouting in TST, these are not samples from the internet, anyone can get these images with just a little practice,  even if you're new to photography !

The real trick here, is not only is this in camera, but these pictures are combined and composed at this exact moment, it's quite an art!

    Meeting Time - 2:00pm
    Outing Starts - 2:15pm
    Drinks/Photo Sharing - 5:00pm

We will meet under the clock tower in TST at the ferry terminal.

5pm onward at Delaney's (Basement Mary Building, 71-77 Peking Road, TST)

Please post no more than 5 images on the Meetup site, and please comment on at least 1 image from other members.

We will proceed with the meetup regardless of the weather so please check before hand and be prepared, however for this meetup, due to the creative nature of this topic we can shoot in-door or undercover should it rain.

    - for this meetup, I strongly recommend reading your camera/application manual and testing that you are confident with the process of setting up your camera/app for taking double exposure pictures before the outing

    - if you're not sure if your model camera can take double/multiple exposures, please leave a comment with your camera model and i'll be most happy to check for you :)
