Please sound off in this thread if you have topic ideas you would like to see discussed at the meetups. At this point let's just generate ideas; we can figure out who will present them later.

My stab at topics that may be interesting
1. R best practices and workflows (project mgmt)
2. Time series packages (ts, xts, zoo) advantages/disadvantages
3. Intro to quantmod package
4. Graphics (lattice, ggplot)
5. Plyr and reshape packages
6. intro to ESS + emacs
7. Intro to R regular expressions
8. Real life R use cases (member work samples)
9. Monte Carlo analysis in R

Topic suggested by Kyle:
Modeling and Classification in R
Potential outline could be: -- Classification in R -- Classification packages -- tuning -- what to do and when -- diagnostics (how to know when you are doing the wrong thing) -- visualization -- predicting a new sample

Ed, I'm not sure why the meeting was cancelled but I certainly hope it can be rescheduled. For me at least, the topic was extremely relevant. Thanks, Bill

Bill-

Kyle was just proposing the meeting topic. We didn't have a planned speaker or presentation or even a room reservation. I took it down b/c I was beginning to suspect people thought it was an actual meetup for this Friday.

I agree it is an interesting topic and we will definitely try to get something put together soon.

Thanks,
Ed

It would be interesting to hear about member's favorite special purpose packages. What's new; what's practical? Also, how does R function when the dataframe size gets to the 10 million or 50 million row range?
