First Year Boating and Discussion

Just as our favorite first years travel across the black lake to Hogwarts, we will coast across the gentle surface of the upper Potomac River. Join us for a day of boating and discussion at Riverbend Park in Great Falls.

Everyone should bring a picnic dinner, and maybe something to share, if you feel so inclined. Over dinner, we will discuss being in the Harry Potter fandom 15 years later, and after we may play some games.

Rental Fees:
Rowboats: $15+ tax
Canoes: $18+ tax
2 Person Kayak: $25+ tax

Address:
Riverbend Park
8700 Potomac Hills Street
Great Falls, VA 22066

**Please Note**
There is no public transportation to the park. If you need to organize a ride with someone, please make arrangements here with fellow DADAers.

**Boating Rules**
-Maximum of 3 people per boat
-children must be 3yo for rowboats, 6yo for canoes, 8yo for kayak
-children must be at least 35lbs.
-everyone must wear life jackets at all times

Ok, so it's not so easy to row a row-boat... Hagrid makes it look so easy! We switched to a canoe and that was much easier and lots of fun! Thanks for organising Michelle and letting us hold the snake!

I canoed on the potomac and held a snake named Liz. I call that an awesome day! Thanks so much for organizing this meetup Michelle.

Hey everyone, we're going to meet at the Visitor Center on the deck. We will rent boats inside, then go off on the boats. If you can't make it until later, you can get a boat to meet us, or you can snag a picnic table and we'll meet you for dinner and discussion. I'll email my number out before, in case you get lost or have more questions. See you tomorrow!

Thanks Kate! And I'll be there in my HufflePuff t-shirt.

I'll be there early, so if people are looking for someone before 3:30, come find me in the Visitor's Center. I think we should meet on the deck at 3:30. It's pretty central.

I'm not going to be able to make it until about 4:30. So I'll try to catch you for the picnic and discussion. Try to still be boating at that point in time, okay? That way I can take some photos of you from the land!

Oh no!! I was sure you guys could figure out the rowboat this year, too! :p We'll miss you!

I think I will skip the boating part and come for the picnic and discussion, so I'll show up around 5pm or so. Do you think that would be about right for coordinating when you'll be done with boating?

    July 24, 2013

    • Michelle

That should be about right. Most people get tired after a few hours.
