New Meetup: HPA Blanket Party

From: KateKintail
Sent on: Sunday, October 17, 2010 10:43 PM
Announcing a new Meetup for Defense Against Dumb 'A's (who don't get HP)!

What: HPA Blanket Party

When: Saturday, November 13,[masked]:00 PM

Where: Pohick Regional Library
6450 Sydenstricker Rd
Burke, VA 22015

Join Carpe Futurum, the local Harry Potter Alliance chapter and craft easy-to-make blankets for Project Linus, which provides a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers." Food and wizard rock will be, as always, an essential part of the experience!

We'll be making blankets, chatting, wrocking out, and snacking from 2:00 to 5:00pm on November 13 at Pohick Library meeting rooms 1 & 2 (where we did Accio Books last March).

Please post/RSVP here to let us know you are planning to come. Let us know if you plan to either:
A- bring $10 to cover materials to make one blanket
B- bring your own blanket-making materials. If making a no-sew blanket, get 2 pieces of fleece measuring 1 yard x 1 yard, or 1.5 x 1.5 yard, in patterns/colors that look good together. You can purchase material from local stores or from online stores such as Your Fleece (use discount code LINUS to get 15% off).

It would also be great if you could bring: scissors, rulers, yard sticks, seam rippers, and/or straight pins for us to use and then return to you at the end of the meeting.

You can also bring any new or used Magical Acts of Warmth items to donate: gloves, mittens, scarves, hats, jackets, boots, socks, coats, or blankets. We?ll donate them to the Second Chance Thrift Store where proceeds go to fund medical care for rescued animals. Shelter House clients receive vouchers to shop there for free so your items may end up helping both animals AND people in our community
