Brief Update From the Humane Society of Louisiana

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Please join me in welcoming our newest members: Kristen, Luna, Alvaro and Vivian!  Our group has more than 180 members!  If you are serious about helping animals, here are three key ways you can help this week.

First, attend tonight's Yappy Hour benefit at the Rusty Nail, located at 1100 Constance in the CBD, from 5-7 pm. We will have great prizes to raffle off and a percentage of all drinks sold will be donated to our group.

Second, please RSVP and attend our upcoming membership and volunteer meeting, which will be held next Monday, April 29th, from 7 -8: 30 pm at the Healing Arts Center, 2372 St. Claude Ave, room 252 (second floor.) We will review volunteer opportunities and an overview of our programs and goals for the rest of the year.  Only a few people from this group have RSVP, so please come and get involved.

Third, help us pass a bill that will protect dogs on Louisiana's state and federal highways. House Bill 470 prohibits the transportation of dogs in open vehicles, unless carried in ventilated crates. To read the bill in its entirety, visit this link: http://www.legis.la.gov/Legis/ViewDocument.aspx?d=835069.
To find out the name and contact information for your state representative, please visit this site and type in your name and address: http://www.legis.la.gov/legis/FindMyLegislators.aspx.

The first person on the list sent back to you will be your state representative.  Please call or write to them today, since they are not in session on Friday, and the bill will be heard again on Monday.  Simply identify yourself as one of their constituents and ask that they vote in favor of House Bill 470.

Many thanks!

Jeff
