The Latin 'spiritus' meant 'wind' or 'breath'; literally, the 'essence' of a thing (as in "spirit of the law" for example). Spiritual Naturalism is about the 'essential' deeper things in life. We look at new and ancient wisdom for pursuing the flourishing 'good life' by cultivating our character, perspectives, and habits. This includes things like meditation, journaling, and other rituals and behaviors with real, practical application.
Join us on the 2nd Wednesday of each month for casual conversation about contemplative approaches and spiritual practices based on reason and compassion, without the need for supernatural beliefs.
Usually our moderator introduces a topic and we go from there. Past topics have included ancient Stoicism, Buddhist philosophy, Taoism and complexity science, and more. The discussion is always fascinating and stimulating.
Please note: we may differ in our tone and style from many other Humanist and atheist get-togethers. We try to proceed with a tone and interaction style of loving-kindness, patience, tolerance, and compassion. We are sharing and listening, rather than debating and we don't just talk about the academic or abstract, but share our own life challenges and efforts to improve our happiness in applied ways.
This is a shared event with the Spiritual Naturalist Society (www.spiritualnaturalistsociety.org) and their Meetup group also attends:
