Note that the start time of this event will be 4 pm, not 1 pm as the previous demonstrations were.
Several local activist groups, including the Houston chapter of Amnesty International, will be participating in a demonstration in support of Saudi writer/blogger/activist Raif Badawi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raif_Badawi), who was recently sentenced to 1,000 lashes and 10 years in prison (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/raif-badawi-exclusive-saudi-blogger-moved-to-tears-by-campaign-in-independent--a-newspaper-he-dreamed-of-writing-for-10001642.html) for "insulting Islam through electronic channels", simply for founding an online forum which "violates Islamic values and propagates liberal thought".
There will be plenty of signs available so you do not need to bring your own, although everyone is certainly welcome and encouraged to do so if you choose.
Note: Be sure that you do not park in the parking garage, as you will run the risk of being towed. There is some street parking in the area, as well as commercial parking lots. There is also the church across the street (on the other side of Bering) where several people have parked in the past with no issues.

Per Ahmed Akeel (https://www.facebook.com/Ahmed.Akeel), one of the organizers of this event:
"I appeal to your humanity, your friendship, to stand with us. You are not required to bring out anything but your human presence. We will provide signage and coordination for the event. The event will also be coordinated with Amnesty International Houston (Group 23), the Global Secular Humanist Movement (https://www.facebook.com/GSHMP) and the Humanists of Houston (https://www.facebook.com/Humanists.of.Houston). I appreciate your support in either showing up or spreading the word to your local friends.
A prisoner of thought that has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, and 1000 lashes, to be publicly carried out. The first public flogging session of 50 lashed has already been administered, and there are 19 more sessions planned to be administered on the coming Fridays.
I appreciate your support in either showing up or spreading the word to your local friends. Anyone who is interested in showing up, feel free to contact message me through FB. ( https://www.facebook.com/Ahmed.Akeel )
