Ever wonder how we got from Paley's Natural Philosophy to "Sudden Emergence" and from Darwinian natural selection to modern Evolutionary Development theory and everything in-between?

Dr. Jerry Poje - “Evolution’s evolution: Darwinians, Eugenicists and new Neo-Lamarkians” In celebration of Darwin day, we’ll explore the strange evolutionary journey of science and religion in America where 46% profess young-earth creationism, another 33% are god-directed evolutionists and only 15% embrace the secular synthesis. Darwin’s inspired understanding, the perversion of eugenics, modern molecular genetic synthesis and epigenetics will be explored.

Dr. Jerry Poje is a specialist in policies dealing with chemical hazards. Since its inception in November 1997, Dr. Poje has served as a Board Member of the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board. Prior to joining the Board, Dr. Poje directed international programs and public health for the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, focusing on issues of disease prevention, health promotion and environmental justice. Dr. Poje received his Ph.D. from New York University and served on the faculty at Miami University of Ohio. He has also served as a senior scientist for the National Wildlife Federation, and as vice president for Research at Green Seal. Dr. Poje has testified before Congress advocating improvements to public health and worker protection and safety, pollution prevention policy, Clean Air policy and regulations, chemical accident prevention, Y2K and chemical safety, and groundwater protection policies.

In continuing partnership with the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax. The event will start at 12:45PM (not the normal 2PM) for the Science, Reason, Religion program at UUCF. This new partnership will allow our communities to support each other on our common points of agreement. Following the SR&R presentation, WASH will continue WASH-specific activities. We will end at 3PM.
