Darwin Day Birthday Celebration with The Dinosaur Guy

We are celebrating Darwin's Birthday this year with a special presentation

"Last Days of the Dinosaurs"

with Richard Wade

Join us for an interactive and fun presentation about how dinosaurs lived and died, even the sounds they made! Children and adults alike will enjoy learning how fossils are created. Richard brings a full-scale model of a Tyrannosaurus skull, a 7-foot Brachiosaurs thigh bone, and fossil replicas. Each child receives an original dinosaur illustration to take home and color. Suitable for children ages 4 to 104.

And of course, we will enjoy

$3 per person (or $10 per family)

Cash or check at the door. Thank you!

My son had a fantastic science lesson and I enjoyed my time with all the wonderful parents I already knew plus met a new one who plans to join our Parenting beyond Religion group!

More, more, more!! Hard to believe how attentive this group of kids were, plus, the adults were ooh-ing and ahh-ing. So many interesting details about living dinosaurs and the creation of fossils. Plus... cake and ice cream! Thanks to everyone who helped make the event happen, and helped with break-down and clean-up. Thanks as well to all of you who uploaded photos. Richard Wade, the dinosaur guy, is really a great ambassador for science and our community. Remember, he writes a column called "Ask Richard" on the Friendly Atheist Blog.

I'm down with this proposal, which would have to be considered "courageous" in this country:

House Democrat seeks to recognize February 12 as ‘Darwin Day’

“Only very rarely in human history has someone uncovered a fundamentally new way of thinking about the world — an insight so revolutionary that it has made possible further creative and explanatory thinking,” the congressman explained in a statement. “Without Charles Darwin, our modern understandings of biology, ecology, genetics, and medicine would be utterly impossible, and our comprehension of the world around us would be vastly poorer. By recognizing Darwin Day, we can honor the importance of scientific thinking in our lives, and we can celebrate one of our greatest thinkers.”

Note the predictable Republican response: Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA), described evolution as “lies from the pit of hell.”

I sent a Darwin Day proclamation to Mayor Filner. No reply.
