Important message on HFSD membership dues from Mary Becker

Hi all,

HFSD Board member Mary Becker posted this message on our Discussion page.  I wanted to send it to everyone on the mailing list to ensure that most of our members read it.

As Mary stated, please keep in mind that HFSD is a non-profit group run solely by volunteers.  I'm sure you'll agree with me that HFSD provides intellectually stimulating and enjoyable activities for its members.  For instance, in the past year alone, we have sponsored presentations by luminaries in the Freethought/secular humanist community such as Richard Dawkins, Darrel Ray, David Niose, Tom Flynn and Luis Granados.  Additionally, we sponsor a monthly Recovering from Religion meeting and a book club.  Moreover, we sponsor viewings of films that are of interest to humanists.  Furthermore, we ensure that the viewpoints of Freethinkers are conveyed in the San Diego community and covered in the media (i.e., our recent atheist billboard, interviews of Debbie Allen by local TV news and radio stations and an excellent editorial in the Union-Tribune opinion section by Board member Rick Stravinsky).  And last but not least, we sponsor social events such as picnics, luncheons and happy hours to provide forums at which our members can get together on an informal basis.  In the past few years, I think HFSD has succeeded in creating an active, vibrant and very supportive COMMUNITY for Freethinkers/secular humanists.

Of course, there are costs associated with our activities, such as costs for food and drinks and honorariums for our speakers. Your HFSD membership fee helps to defray these expenses.  We aren't asking a whole lot, folks: an individual membership is just $30.00 per year.  And don't forget that since HFSD is a non-profit organization, this membership fee is tax-deductible.

If you haven't paid your membership dues this year, won't you please help us out by taking a few minutes to do so?  Mary explains the payment procedure in her message at the link below.

Please note that if you hit "reply," your response will be sent to every HFSD member on our mailing list. If you have any questions or comments, please email me directly at [address removed].

Thanks in advance for your contribution!

Wilfredo Perez, Vice President, HFSD
