You’re invited to the upcoming humankind Listening Lab! *** IN ADDITION TO JOINING THE MEETUP, PLEASE RSVP FOR THE GATHERING HERE: https://www.eventbrite.com/o/humankind-san-diego-17235074876 *** The mission of humankind is to strengthen our sense of shared humanity, across boundaries real and perceived, by learning to have conversations that connect. We do this in various ways, and one of them is our Listening Labs. These gatherings are about offering a regular space in which we’ll keep learning how to improve our ability to connect with others, building bridges where opinions, beliefs or perspectives can sometimes divide us. Every time we succeed, or even every time we try in earnest, we also discover new things about ourselves along the way, and about what pushes us to try again and learn more about how we can be compassionate and listen more. We start these evenings with time to meet new people and catch up with folks we know. We then spend time on an experiential activity, exploring concrete ways we can get better at creating deeper connections through conversations. We hope you can join us to try out new ways of weaving connection into our lives. Space is limited, so the sooner you RSVP the better. If you can’t make it, feel free to invite someone else. If you have any questions about this or future events, please contact [masked]. Thank you for supporting humankind and we hope to see you there! humankind San Diego http://www.humankindsandiego.org/ *** IN ADDITION TO JOINING THE MEETUP, PLEASE RSVP FOR THE GATHERING HERE: https://www.eventbrite.com/o/humankind-san-diego-17235074876 ***

  • Listening Lab - Migration

You’re invited to the upcoming humankind Listening Lab! *** IN ADDITION TO JOINING THE MEETUP, PLEASE RSVP FOR THE GATHERING HERE: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/listening-lab-on-migration-april-tickets-59512864580 *** This Month In April, we are starting a new series of Listening Labs to explore the topic of migration. Migration is something we have in common, one of the roots of our identity as human beings. We hear or read many stories of migrants, especially living in the San Diego area. When we listen to them in a conversation in which we choose to “show up” and share our own feelings and stories about migration, moving, relocating… we realize that we all have, either personally or within our family, personal stories that are about moving somewhere else. How might we move away from the mindset that there is “us” on this side of the border and “them” who are trying to come in, reaching a point where it becomes clear that we all carry a migration story? What's humankind? humankind is a platform for people and initiatives committed to strengthening shared humanity through conversations that connect. It’s important to create space for us to interact, create moments of deeper connection and explore together how we can be better at it. Join us to participate in experiential learning moments for personal nurturing and community building. To learn more about what we do, visit our website at http://www.humankindsandiego.org/. Why Listening Labs? There is so much to discover about how “listening” can be transformed from a matter-of-fact activity we do without being really aware of, into a path towards authentic connection. Connection to others, but also to ourselves - and back again full circle, because becoming aware of ourselves in deeper ways brings us back to a sense of interconnectedness with all others… At humankind, we think that’s worth exploring together every month!

For this October edition of the Listening Lab, we’ll revisit the Listening Tool we have used a few times before (a practical activity designed by Otto Scharmer (MITSenior Lecturer) as part of his Theory U framework). It invites us to connect to various dimensions of ourselves and engage them in our listening, beyond what we usually do. It doesn’t matter how many times you have tried this activity: there is always so much more to discover, because it's about experiencing this space where inward and outward meet, where meaningful connections are created and external circumstances are transformed. We hope you can join us to try out new ways of weaving connection into our lives. Space is limited, so the sooner you RSVP the better. If you can’t make it, feel free to invite someone else. It’s a process designed to transform the deepening dysfunctions in the ecological, socio-economical, and spiritual equilibrium of our planet. Theory U provides tools to take action (such as learning to listen in deeper and more inspired ways) that is informed less by old information and thought habits and more by the future that wants to be born through what we do, individually and together. Theory U was formalized by Otto Scharmer, MIT Senior Lecturer and co-founder of the MIT’s Presencing Institute. You can learn more about Theory U on the Presencing Institute website or listen to Scharmer on YouTube. About u.lab u.lab is a free online course that explores Theory U. Over the 12-week course (September 20 to December 20), humankind is hosting a “hub” for San Diego. A hub consists of a group of people who come together to go through the milestones of the u.lab process. You can mix and match activities to do together, on your own, or skip. How much you want or are able to invest in the process is totally up to you. More info on u.lab can be found here. What hub members can choose to do: Gather to watch the online sessions of the course as a group; Form a peer-coaching group that works in person rather than online; Experiment as a group with the u.lab tools for personal and collective transformation; Explore other ways to motivate each other, the tools and concepts more in depth or more lively, and connect, exchange, coordinate and manage the hub together while practicing u.lab tools. This course runs only once a year, so don’t miss out! Once registered, you’ll receive more information about scheduling and getting started. You can already register for the course with the Presencing Institute or through their online registration system at edEx, but to join the hub supported by humankind, please register also through this Eventbrite page. Thanks and we hope to see you there! *** IN ADDITION TO JOINING THE MEETUP, PLEASE RSVP FOR THE GATHERING HERE: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ulab-2018-theory-u-workshop-supported-by-humankind-tickets-49859353669 ***
