Summary: This is pleasant hike takes you to one of five remaining fire towers in the Catskills.

The trail is marked with red disks and follows old wood roads for the most part. There are several switchbacks as the road winds its way up the mountain. Long gradual sections alternate with short steady climbs, but you will not find anything terribly steep. You pass an old bluestone quarry (a big rock pile) and a lean-to (three-sided shelter) with a privy on the way up. Near the summit is a second lean-to.

You can climb the fire tower at the top of Mount Tremper for views of the surrounding mountains. Overlook mountain is due east

Glad I didn't cancel! Good workout, great tacos, as usual. Thanks for hiking and talking with me, Megumi!

A really nice, quick and short hike and great company. It was very nice talking to you, Janine. I'm glad Ace got his workout, too. :D
We did great avoiding the rain since it had rained beforehand and it POURED on the drive home (at least for me). Thanks for hosting! Oh, and the tacos were great, of course. Must have tacos.

Watching the weather! Right now severe storms are likely between 5-8pm. You wouldn't want to be out if something like yesterday hits! Update will be emailed no later than 1:30pm

If a tree branch falls down in the Catskills and no one is there, does it make a sound? It would be just my luck to be struck with a blow-down.

Oh, and one more thing. Could you please update the first Google map link on the description (right next to where it says Old Route 28)? Google map thinks it's a different segment of Old Route28. The first time I joined this hike, I tried to go to there and ended up on this overgrown road to nowhere. :D
