Mandatory Requirements: Each hiker must have a paper map for the appropriate trails, a working compass, a headlamp, and microspikes. Any hiker without this mandatory gear will be turned away at the trailhead. MAPS ON YOUR PHONES OR GPS DEVICES ARE NOT SUBSTITUTES FOR PAPER MAPS. Special Gear / Requirements:
Map (NYNJTC 142 + 143 or NatGeo 755)
Extra Clothing & Emergency Shelter
First Aid Supplies
Fire-starters, Matches, and Dry Tinder
Knife or Tool

WARNING REGARDING BUSHWHACKS: "Bushwhacks" are hikes that go off of maintained trails and through pure wilderness. Please make sure you are very confident in your ability to navigate through the woods without trails since it is very easy to get lost in these forests, especially in the summer. Map & Compass REQUIRED. GPS is also recommended, but it is not a substitute for a map & compass and the skills to use them effectively.
