Join us for a faster paced workout at Bear Mountain. *This is not a beginner hike, as it is a quick-paced and steep climb with no sweep.*
This hike will begin after sunset. We will hopefully have some remaining natural light for the beginning of the ascent. Headlamps are a MUST (not a flashlight) and will be used at some point on the way up, as well on the way down.
We will meet outside the Bear Mountain Inn. We'll ascend on the Major Welch trail (red circle). At the elevation peak, we will make a left turn and follow the Appalachian Trail (white rectangle) toward Perkins Tower. From there we will descend to the inn on the AT North (white rectangle).
Faster hikers are not obligated to wait for slower hikers. You must feel comfortable completing the hike on your own should you fall behind or separate from the group. There is no sweep. If you are unsure whether or not this is for you, please message me with any questions prior to the day of the hike.
1) the Bear Mountain (or Harriman #119) map. **Avenza phone app recommended if you are unfamiliar with the route** - it's a free app and the Bear Mountain map download is free as well
2) a working/charged headlamp (not a flashlight)
3) sufficient water
If you want to hike with the group, please arrive by 4:55PM, as we will start the hike at 5PM, sharp.
You are welcome to start earlier or later if you think you will be faster or slower than the main group.
Distance: ~4 miles
Elevation Gain: ~1200'
Hike time: ~2 hours
