There are some who have said that it is bonkers to attempt a Hudson Valley Tech Meetup only three days after the 2nd annual Catskills Conf (http://www.catskillsconf.com/) is over. Some of those people may even be writing this post to you now. Truth be told, we cannot help ourselves. There are just so many awesome people in this river valley who are doing great work and want to share it - and also Ads said "heck ya we'll write more songs about them!"
So let's have at it friends! October is for tech lovers! Get some of this...
Melanie Axelrod (http://melanieaxelrod.com/), recent SUNY New Paltz graduate and freelance digital artist will present her project entitled "The Sound of Many Sleeping Bees" (http://sleepingbees.melanieaxelrod.com/). In her talk she will discuss the Why and How of individual experiences with smartphones and what can be done to improve them. The talk will include a brief history of smartphones, delving into interaction theory and will outline several means of addressing specific issues.
Ulster County Legislator (District 7 - Kingston), professional urban planner, and historic preservationist Jennifer Schwartz Berky (https://www.linkedin.com/in/honestrategicadvisors), and the Midtown Arts District (https://madkingston.org/) Steering Committee will present plans for the growing arts district of Kingston. They will share how Midtown Kingston has become host to over 300 creative and tech businesses with more arriving every day.
Scott Heiferman (https://www.linkedin.com/in/sheif) will be speaking! We're not exactly sure what Scott is going to talk about and we don't even care. Scott is the cofounder & CEO of Meetup.com and also a cofounder of the NY Tech Meetup (https://nytm.org/). We love that Scott is a champion for local social connections as the real backbone of a strong community. We are so stoked that Zephyr Teachout (http://www.zephyrteachoutforcongress.com/) invited Scott to come all the way up here to Kingston to meet us. Come on out to join us on this fateful evening dear members and prepare to meet your maker!
