Re: [ia-55] Need Help for iPad user testing

Hi Sanghee - we use Morae at eHarmony to run in-house user testing on mobile devices and the website. The only additional pieces of equipment we've needed for mobile testing is a decent HD video camera and a firewire cable.  Morae is set up to handle mobile pretty seamlessly as long as you have the right equipment.

Here's what you need.

2 computers - 1 to run the Morae recorder software (with firewire input), 1 to run the Morae observer software in the observation room, both should be connected to your LAN so they can find each other on the network. I wouldn't recommend doing it over a wireless network. We've had issues with the computers not being able to find each other and also with the quality of the connection.
1 webcam - to get PiP of the face of the participant. We attach this to the laptop running the recorder software in the testing room.
1 HD video camera with tripod (with firewire output) - this is how you'll capture the screen on the mobile device. We position this above the device pointing pretty much directly down towards the device screen.
1 firewire cable to pass data from the camera to the computer running the recorder software

That's about it. Hope this is helpful.

Subject: [ia-55] Need Help for iPad user testing

Hello LAUX community,

First time posting here- this mailing list has been exceptionally educational for me, thank you all for sharing great information. Currently I'm trying to set up a low key user testing room (temporary) for an iPad app- I have looked at Morae and Silverback, and they seem to be mostly aimed at the PC/Mac based application testing. I'm wondering if anyone could provide an insight on running a user testing on iPad apps, especially regarding the video recording aspect. Thank you so much!
