"Designing beyond the Device" with Jod Kaftan of BLITZ

From: Crystal Ehrlich, UX D.
Sent on: Saturday, August 25, 2012 12:53 PM

Hi Folks,

Jod has been kind enough to share his "Designing beyond the Device" presentation from Thursday evening. It can be found on SlideShare at:

Also, on Thursday, Jason Gillard, one of the organizers of our group, was experimenting with live streaming. The video, which is a bit raw but really captures the event, can be found here:

Thank you, Jason Gillard! Yay! You did it!!!

We are extremely lucky that Nicola Scaramuzzo ( filmed the event too. Once it has been edited, prepared for the web and uploaded, we will share the video with you.

As mentioned during the event, there are an incredible number of UX workshops, events and activities going on in the next two months in SoCal. To view the Acrobat PDF file that describes them, open the below link and go to page 7:

It's becoming difficult to keep track of all the UX events taking place in the area. If you know of one, please email the organizers. It will be posted on our calendar. You can see all the UX events we know about here:

And, I would like to thank Jod Kaftan for his brilliant presentation, which was such a generous contribution to the growth of our UX community. I can see how he earned the tagline "In Jod we trust".

The event at Yahoo! Santa Monica couldn't have taken place without Brian Channell's support with the donation of the venue, food and beverages. It costs Yahoo! a great deal of money for us to have the events there. Brian, thank you so much and I'm very grateful for your amazing support of the UX community.

And, I'd like to thank:
Denise Walker, TechZulu, Matt Dandurand, Media Contour, Nicola Scaramuzzo, Marcella Missirian, Gavin Burnett, Cherry Davis, Garick Chan, Valeria Kholostenko, Alaia Williams, Nate Uchida, Kristin Kazamaki, Sharon Folio, Pavel Binar and Valerie Kameya. If you volunteered and I missed you name, I apologize in advance. When you have a moment, please kindly email me or call me at[masked]-6762.

Also, Carlos (Charlie) Salazar and Jason Gillard, who you may have met on Thursday, help with everything The Los Angeles User Experience Meetup group does. Although, Chris Chandler, who is the founder of the group, and Christian Sosa-Lanz, who has a long history with running the group, had scheduling conflicts, they are the bedrock of our organization. Not only are they wonderful to work with, they have amazing ideas, years of experience and deeply care about the UX community.

So, enjoy your weekend and the great links above.

Best, Crystal
