I would like to thank Sean Van Tyne for making the trip from San Diego yesterday and sharing his in -depth knowledge on Customer Experience. For those of you who attended the meetup with Sean Van Tyne on CX, I hope you found the information to be valuable, participated in the book signing and were able to take advantage of the special membership-discount at Cross Campus. Please do provide feedback about the gathering so we know what kinds of events you are interested in. Also, Jason Gillard, a co-organizer from our group, recorded and posted two videos on our YouTube account. These are from the Google Hangout and are a bit raw. We will provide a higher fidelity video via our Vimeo account shortly. You can also find the slides from last night's presentation on our Meetup site in the "Files" section (ppt).
And, I'd like to thank DIRECTV'S Digital Innovation Lab for sponsoring the food from California Chicken Cafe and beverages. Neysa Pelletier's overview of D Lab (pdf) was fascinating and also can be found on our site. To learn more them, check out this video. The good news is that they are hiring. You can contact Travis Jabara or Esther Kimm for more information about the positions that are open.
I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank Carlos "Charlie" Salazar, one of the co-organizers of our group, for coordinating all the volunteer efforts. And, for those who volunteered, we couldn't have done it without you (and after volunteering, I think you know it). Thank you so much! I hope you will help out with future events too, like our next one.
For those who couldn’t make it, you won’t want to miss our next event on Lean UX with Lane Halley, Jaime Levy and Chris Chandler (the founder of our group)! The event is on Tuesday, March 5th at Cross Campus (yay!). Lean UX might be the hottest topic in the field of User Experience right now. It's especially important to the start-up community.
And, I have some great news from our friends at Cross Campus. They have graciously extended their special membership-discount offer for LAUX members. You can join for only $200 for the first month ($150 off). If you’re interested, drop them a note at [address removed] with “LAUX” in the subject line to schedule a tour. Or, just drop by 820 Broadway in Santa Monica and let them know you’re from LAUX.
Also, Cross Campus has UX office hours with experts in the field, yoga classes for member only, discounts at many of the local businesses around them and other valuable member-resources and perks. The UX office hours might be tremendously valuable for those who need UX mentoring and want to get feedback on their work from an UX professional. Cross Campus hosts a number of events, so check out their event calendar for opportunities to further your professional development efforts. But, the best way to grow, for those who do freelance work, are consultants or run their own company, is to join.
Have a great weekend and see you at the Lean UX event in 12 days!
Thank you Sean Van Tyne, DIRECTV'S Digital Innovation Lab, Cross Campus, Carlos "Charlie" Salazar, Jason Gillard, and our awesome volunteers. You rock!
