The next meeting of the Nassau County Inventors and Entrepreneur Club will take place onMonday, October 29th from 7pm – 9pm in the Nassau County Executive and Legislative Building.
We are pleased to announce that our guest speaker will be: Sue Purvis –United States Patent and Trademark Office Innovation and Outreach Coordinator in the Greater New York Region.
Ms. Purvis will be discussing: the US Patent and Trademark Office, resources for inventors and entrepreneurs, help for starting new businesses, new outreach programs, and updates on the recently passed America Invents Act.

Sue Purvis is the Innovation and Outreach Coordinator in the Greater New York Region. In this capacity she works closely with Cornell University as they endeavor to create Cornell NYC Tech which will be located on Roosevelt Island in New York City. In addition to working with Cornell, Sue will be working with other local educators in the area. She will also work with innovators and entrepreneurs in the City of New York to avail them of the information and resources offered by the Department of Commerce. Prior to her current role, she served as Expert Advisor to Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Deputy Director of the USPTO Teresa Stanek Rea. As Ms. Rea’s advisor, Sue assisted the Deputy Director to ensure the policies and priorities of the Under Secretary and Director were effectively carried out.
Ms. Purvis began her career at the USPTO in 1998 as a Patent Examiner in the Chemical Technology Center 1700. She was hired as a trainer in the new 8-month training academy in April 2006 and trained new examiners hired into the Computer Architecture area of the office. In January 2007, she was hired a Supervisory Patent Examiner for Semiconductor Art Unit 2826. From January to March of 2010, she served on a Detail in the Office of the Commissioner for Patents and was named Technology Center Coordinator for TC 2800 in April 2010.
Ms. Purvis received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from The Ohio State University and a Juris Doctor from the George Washington University Law School.
