Hey, wanted to shamelessly plug an iPad game I just released. Ragdoll Boxing: Match of the Century. ( http://omgpanda.com/boxing/ )
I worked on the moose game with Justin at this jam, but for those that remember, it clearly wasn't something I could ship as a full game. >.<
Luckily at the next GameJam, 2Jam in Vancouver, I got to work on something that I could put on the AppStore. A 2-player iPad game.
Anyway, seriously had a great jam with you all. Looking forward to the next.</selfpromotion>

Thanks everybody it was truly awesome to see and meet so many of you humans.
Bravo sir! Film is my favourite. And personally, I love the Massively Multiple Exposure shot at the top.
Thank you Mr. Tihor! It was a pleasure to jam beside you as well all weekend =)
Thank you everyone for such an awesome first jam experience! I'll definitely be attending more meetups :) Colton already posted the link to our game, but I'd love to keep in touch over the twitters: @pixelsbymarta

Project: Maple has been submitted to Ludum Dare - the page for that is here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-24/?action=preview&uid=16847
The game itself is on Kongregate, here: http://www.kongregate.com/games/MoracExMachina/project-maple
Jam was awesome! TowerFall isn't released yet, but you can follow its development at towerfall.tumblr.com
I had a great time! Wish I could have personally met everyone. Keep in touch with me on twitter @freqwave .
Dudes. That was incredible. I was so slamming busy that I didn't get much time to introduce myself in person to a lot of you.
Who was recording the podcast, and where can I listen to it?
Thank you, LEVEL UP! You are awesome.
Hey Dan the podcast should be up in a week or less at levelupradio.ca
This event was really awesome. I had a freaking blast. Here's the game we made. Corvus in Flashpunk http://megaswf.com/file/2467975
Had a lot of fun. The people I met inspired me with their extreme gamedev talent. I was blown away by the amazing things that people made. Zero complaints of any kind.
It was great to meet so many gamedevs I've admired for ages in real life. I had a blast! Here's my turn based strategy puzzle game, Fantasy Map Tactics: http://mcfunkypants.com/LD24

Yet another great experience! Awesome job everyone.
Here's my ship building game called Maple. Remember to NOT create infinite loops. Thanks again to Matt and Jordan for the sound help. It was awesome jamming with everyone. http://ericraue.com/f/projects/ld24/

This was probably one of the coolest things I've ever attended. Thank you!

Here's my little maple syrup themed entry. Used the jam to learn how to use Flixel and Monkey. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7284819/OrcaJam/SeedOnTheWind.swf
I've just started playing around with some basic loops and samples to create some music tracks. Nothing special and these are just short cuts, but let me know if they might fit with what you're working on or if you'd like to try something else together.

There's a big group of us on the 3pm ferry. We're coming Andy, so keep the beer cold!
0 · August 24, 2012
I've just arrived at Moon Underwater and got our tables reserved. Feel free to come down anytime! The taps will be flowing and free food until 7pm.
It's looking like I won't be making it this weekend :/ I'll try my best to make it late Saturday or early Sunday but it's looking bleak. Don't worry about a refund either way though.

So happy to see that you're gonna be there, Steve!
Well said, sir!
Clipper was booked on sunday. Looks like I'm going through Anacortes Fri/Sun

If anyone from Vancouver is taking the ferry without a car, I'll be aiming for the 3:00pm Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay ferry on Friday if you want a ride from the ferry to the hotel.
I have a huge favour to ask of anyone with a vehicle - I need some help getting my desktop to and from the jam location. I don't live far (<5 mins by car), and it isn't much stuff, but it's a bit further than I can walk with it.
I'm willing to pay in beer! (or a beverage of your choice)
Sweet! Thanks! I'm going to be at the location right at the start on Friday, around 6 PM. Would that be a good time to meet up?
Who else is going to be using Unity?
0 · August 20, 2012
I will! :)
I also will be.
0 · August 21, 2012
Awesome! Glad to see other Unity peeps will be around. Anyone planning to use Unity in 2D? I probably will be doing 2.5D or 3D because I haven't used many 2D plugins yet...
I'm open to using Unity in 2D, 2.5D, 3D or even[masked]D if we can swing it.
Yeah, I'm doing 2d stuff pretty exclusively
Alain, I'd be interested to see (at OrcaJam) what plugins you are using for Unity 2D and how you feel about them. I've been looking into a few and trying to determine what toolkits are the best for full 2D dev. If you don't mind, I'll come bug you a bit at the jam :)
Absolutely. I'm not a pro, but I've tried 2 so far and planning on messing around with a 3rd one for the jam.
I'll probably use Unity for 3D or 2D using the RagePixel plugin. But I'm also considering using LÖVE.
I work with Unity toooooo. I can do 2d or 3d. I also have a plugin called SpriteManager2 for Unity which generates sprite sheets from an image sequence.
Nice! I am also using SM2 for creating sprite sheets for animation. :)
Super excited to see all y'all. I'll be arriving a little late. I'm rolling in on the Seattle/Victoria Clipper which lands at 5:45pm. Any other folks going to be on this boat?
Due to a schedule malfunction I have to work all weekend, so my laptop and I are going to have to sit this one out. :(

I'm looking to share a hotel room if anyone has some bed or floor space.
Hey Party Rockers, I'm looking for rideshare from seattle and roomshare up at the OJ if anyone has room. Pumped to finally get to go!

I am new to this, in fact I am new to programming (just 1 year in software development field). Is there any knowledge prerequisite to attend this event?
0 · August 15, 2012
There's no pre-req to attend, but unless you have a project you are currently working on - or a skill to share with others - it might be more of a social thing.
Some people are willing to teach and share but there's no guarantees. :)
Don't worry about it too much. You'll find ways to contribute, learn a lot, and meet new people.
Sorry to hear that you can't come, Brandon! Was looking forward to seeing you! We should have mini orcajams every few months in coffeeshops. =)
Hell yeah! We should get in the habit of posting our own jams to Level up so others know about it. Next time UVic GameDev has a minijam I'll make a post on the page :) See you next time hopefully Brandon! :D
Won't be attending sadly. Hope you all have a great time! Cheers.
0 · August 14, 2012
Oof, that sucks. Hope nothing is going too wrong on your end.
Sorry for the newbish question, but just to clarify: there won't be any hardware on site, correct? Our own computers are needed? I couldn't find any mention of this on the OrcaJam website.
(Not actually going to be a problem, just need to organize someone to help me get my desktop down there, as my laptop option is... lacking).
0 · August 9, 2012
Yep, the "equipment" section of Orcajam.com says bring laptops (or desktops if you must). :)
correct, it is byoc (bring your own computer)
Ah, definitely misread that section. Thanks.
it's looking VERY possible that I won't be able to attend :( I'll keep you updated.
Looking to make an #html5 game at this thing, anyone wanna join me? :D
0 · August 2, 2012
I'm in. Who's going to head up the art department?
I'd be down to do the Art / Design for it. Also music if needed :)
we'll dole out roles as we have need I think... but yay team!
Sure, see you there :D
0 · August 5, 2012
it will depend on the theme, ideas, and skill set available to us. I would like to use a framework, but would prefer to stay away from a tool that generates the code (so no game maker, or construct). I hope to keep it very simple, and have us just create our own entities/sprites and behaviors... not a whole game engine.
also a great resource to look at would be: http://www.html5gamed...there are engines and tools there that might give you some other options.
I am coming but I don't have money in my Paypal account right now...
We only have a few tickets left, so hurry up and refill! (or get a friend to pay for you perhaps)
I'm getting super excited about this event!
I've never been to a game jam before, so this is going to be pretty rad. I'm seeing some superstar names in the attending list. :D
I will be there to help make stuff look pretty. Can't wait!
0 · August 1, 2012
Looking forward to jamming out ideas and contributing Music & Sound
Thanks Calvin. I'm excited too.
0 · July 21, 2012
Colton you are awesome for bringing musical instruments! =)
0 · July 20, 2012
@Christer: I wouldn't worry about making noise, I don't think we'd be playing music, I'd be more interested in bringing equipment for everyone to utilize for game-making. :) Ride would definitely be appreciated, we'll see when that time comes around.
0 · July 12, 2012
Hey Colton, I'd be happy to lend you a hand: we could use my nasty blue station wagon of daditude. That said, there's a possibility the wife uses it to go out of town for that weekend but if not I'm glad to help. Another issue: the hotel may not allow us to make noise.
I'd love it if someone with a van could give is a lift there and back. We have a LOT of instruments I'm sure there are other musically inclined people who would be interested in using a real keyboard, guitar, etc (maybe not???) Anyway we'll bring some stuff for sure.
Levity is an awesome word! :3
Colton, please bring your music gear again! It added so much more JAM-tasticness and levity. And humour. And metal. And pokemon.
0 · July 11, 2012
Woo-tastic. If the price changes, no worries. Personally I'd rather NO FOOD and save money for what really matters. BEER.
Interestingly, it is the same weekend as Ludum Dare 24. Double-jam? Why not!
Last time was awesome. Loved playing Rock Band and seeing people I love and respect. Can't wait to see you all again.
I haven't confirmed stuff yet, but maybe at the next meetup you can pay if I have?
I RSVP Along with my good buddy Ken. Will bring cash to pay for admission at the door like last year. See you there!!!
Refunds are not offered for this Meetup.
