Manchester by the Sea

Wow, the good movies are coming down the pike now...

Manchester by the Sea, written and directed by Kenneth Lonergan, is about a working class family Massachusetts, forced by circumstances to care for the 16-year old son of a relative.    Lonergan's previous movies (including Stand by Me, and You Can Count on Me) have been exceptional, emotional and real.    This one garners a Tomatometer reading of 97%.

For those interested in joining me, I'll be at the Mendicino Farms sandwich shop at 6pm, before the movie.

Since Christmas is approaching, this one is scheduled for a Tuesday.

"Manchester by the Sea" is a masterpiece in a minor key, an exploration of grief that never lets its characters - or its audience - off the hook.
Billy Goodykoontz,   Arizona Republic

"Manchester By the Sea" is a film of surpassing beauty and heart. Even at its most melancholy depths, it brims with candid, earnest, indefatigable life.
Ann Hornaday,  Washington Post

An exemplary film of such exceptional wisdom, beauty, clarity, sensitivity and emotional depth that I had to rub my eyes to believe it.
Rex Reed,  New York Observer

Excellent movie. Most of the goings-on were under the surface, my favorite kind. And the kid's on-the-surface moves were interesting, too!

Thanks. I was already seated when I texted this. Nice to see everyone at least afterwards.

Oops. Lost track of the date. I'm at home instead of the theater. Sorry to be a flake. Hope you enjoy the movie. (Just saw a trailer for it on TV. Hard to really tell, but it looked good.)

Great movie (saw it opening night in L.A.; no, it wasn't a red carpet opening, just a single screening at The Landwark). Enjoy. Will see it again on the big screen in Jan/Feb.
