Choose the 6:45 screening.

*****************************************************************

Located alongside the Tennessee River, Muscle Shoals, Alabama is the unlikely breeding ground for some of America’s most creative and defiant music. Under the spiritual influence of the “Singing River,” as Native Americans called it, the music of Muscle Shoals has helped create some of the most important and resonant songs of all time. At its heart is Rick Hall, who founded FAME Studios. He is responsible for creating the “Muscle Shoals sound” and the Swampers, the house band at FAME that eventually left to start their own successful studio, known as Muscle Shoals Sound. Greg Allman, Bono, Clarence Carter, Mick Jagger, Etta James, Alicia Keys, Keith Richards, Percy Sledge and others bear witness to Muscle Shoals’ magnetism, mystery and why it remains influential today.

111 minutes. Rated PG. Film starts at 6:45 PM.

After the film we will walk to Starbucks for coffee and conversation.

I'm sorry that I had to miss this (I was away at a conference this past weekend). Scott made an intriguing choice, and I look forward to hearing more about the film at another Meetup event.

I was there but thought my RSVP Yes was enough to get the free ticket. I didn't have the money to get in so I had to go home. I didn't understand that there was a separate website to get the free ticket, I did happen to look on the website but didn't see anything for a free ticket. Could you somehow post more clear instructions for new member to follow for tickets? Thanks, looking forward to trying this again and getting to see the movie next time.

Excellent film! Had no idea so much music history lies in a small town just over the Alabama border.

Interesting take on the best Blues arising out of pain, suffering and poverty . . . this time in some southern white males. Another indication of the link between loss, mourning and the creative spirit.

Fantastic documentary of a world-renowned record producer who struggles with his internal feelings of loss, rejection, and pain all the while giving the world some of the best rock and roll and R&B music from his humble Southern studio.
