Who are your favorite filmmakers?

Spike Lee, Jane Campion, Pedro Almodovar, and Wim Wenders are some favorite directors. I also find some actors, like Catherine Deneuve, tend to pick really interesting projects (e.g., Indochine).

What are some of your favorite movies?

The Lives of Others, Legally Blond, Pride and Prejudice, Tropic Thunder, Blade Runner, Diva, Desperately Seeking Susan, 21 Grams, Walk the Line, Cyrano, Like Water for Chocolate, E.T., All About Eve, Now Voyager, Vicky Christina Barcelona, Notorious

What lessons could the Hollywood studios learn from independent or foreign filmmakers?

Subtlety would be a good one. After I saw Lives of Others (German) I thought, "This could never be made in the U.S." Originality would be nice - too many mainstream movies are sooooo predictable.

Can't believe I just found out about this! I am a culture junkie and love to go to the movies.

What Janet M. is saying about this Meetup Group

This was my third outing with the AA Film Fans Meetup Group. Each time, an interesting set of folks participated, and I had a great time.
