SHE KEEPS BEES @ MOTH CLUB

SHE KEEPS BEES is a Brooklyn-based blues rock duo who've been producing music in their home since 2006. A group of us saw them play last year and I think it's safe to say we were not disappointed. They've released their latest album, Eight Houses, which CoS says is more folksy but still full of the seductive, velvety dark, earthy growl that I've come to associate with Jessica Larrabee's voice/guitar and the heart jump-start drumming by Andy LaPlant.

'While Eight Houses sees She Keeps Bees moving deeper into the roots of folk rather than blues, Larrabee is clawing farther into soul. Her voice rips from deep within her lungs on “Breezy”, filling the room with the unflinching power of Florence Welch or Torres. Just as her self-taught vocal lessons screwed a hinge into the style, it’s the raw warmth and menacing emotion Larrabee nails to each word that makes her lines pound with aggression.' CoS

Tickets are £11 from Dice

'Full of DIY spirit and a malevolent beauty, when Jessica Larrabee and Andy LaPlant play live it's often a raw, jagged, compelling and silencing kind of performance. Their songs swell and fall, only to grow back with twice the bite.' Dice

They're also one of the only bands I know that let you listen to their entire album before deciding to buy. Check out ALL of them here:

    Timings for tonight:

    Doors: 7.30pm
    Sylva Kay: 8.15pm
    Zimmerman: 8.45pm
    She Keeps Bees: 9.30pm
    Curfew: 11pm

Can't find audio samples for Zimmerman but RFB makes him sound pretty cool, so might try mosey down for that: http://www.rockfeedback.com/concerts/detail/she-keeps-bees2

Will probably also aim to get to 'The Spoons' for closer to 7pm (don't want to be too tiddly for the show :)

'Spoons it is. Gig starts at 7:30pm, I'll aim to be at the pub for around 6:45pm. Had a listen to some of the support's stuff (Thanks Kevin!), not sure it's my thing, so might give it a miss, but feel free to head over to catch her at 7:30pm. Will drop an email with mobile no. etc.
    See you there!

    Hi All,

REALLY excited for tomorrow night! Just wondering if people want to meet in a pub beforehand? I'm more familiar with Londonfields as opposed to Hackney, but I can see that there's a Weatherspoon's very close to Moth Club. Alt, as ever, all suggestions welcome...
