The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is a film directed and co-written by Guy Ritchie, based on the 2014 book Churchill's Secret Warriors: The Explosive True Story of the Special Forces Desperadoes of WWII by Damien Lewis. The film portrays a heavily fictionalized version of Operation Postmaster. Based in part on real historical events, the film's storyline is about Special Operations Executive, a covert British World War II organisation formed in 1940 at instigation of Prime Minister Winston Churchill for conducting espionage and sabotage in Nazi-occupied Europe. SOE operations contributed significantly to the Allied victory over Nazi Germany and were forerunners of modern-day black operations and irregular warfare. Here's the trailer:

Let’s meet at the Central Library for a free showing of Walter Hill’s The Driver (1978).
The Driver is a movie starring Ryan O’Neal as a nameless getaway driver. This film has been cited as a big influence on Drive and Baby Driver.
We will meet in front of the Clowes Theater at 5:45 to meet and greet before the 6:00 showtime. After the movie, we will go for dinner and conversation about what we just saw.

Join us for our monthly movie discussion on Zoom! First up will be our regular icebreaker round where we go “around the room” and invite everyone to talk about a movie you’ve watched recently. Give us a short summary, how you saw it and a recommendation or a warning.

At 8 o'clock we'll pivot to a group discussion based on the theme for 2024, the once-a-decade Sight and Sound Greatest Films of All Time poll. A film movement that started in the late '50s and was active for 15 years or so, the French New Wave is well represented in the Sight and Sound Top 100. What are the defining characteristics of New Wave cinema? Why were directors like Godard and Truffaut so influential on other filmmakers? Do the movies have staying power or are they a relic of their time? Join us as we discuss these questions and more.

Sleepaway Camp is a 1983 film written and directed by Robert Hiltzik, and starring Felissa Rose, Katherine Kamhi, Paul DeAngelo, Mike Kellin (in his last screen appearance), and Christopher Collet (in his first).
