Fourth Tuesday Meetup

Join us for our fourth Tuesday meeting at Cornerstone Coffee. The first hour is open to all movie-related topics. Starting at 8 (and going until we run out of things to say) we'll dive into an in-depth discussion of the movie of the month. Join us for dinner and discussion at Cornerstone! If you enjoyed
Inception, you won't want to miss the next MOTH! The movie of the month for August is Satoshi Kon's
Paprika. Scientists have invented a device that lets you go into someone else's dreams. Envisioned as a therapy aid, it is predictably misused for criminal ends. The research team and a detective- who dreams in the idiom of classic Hollywood movies- must go into the dreamworld to find the culprit. This is a joint Meetup with the Indy Anime Underground. If you like anime, you'll like
Paprika. If you don't like anime, this may be the movie that changes your mind. You won't find any anime cliches here! Kon is one of Japan's premier animator-filmmakers; some of his other notable films are
Perfect Blue and
Tokyo Godfathers.

@Matt: That is very sad news. Kon was only 47 (it was cancer). He should have had many more years, and movies, ahead of him. We've lost a great filmmaker in his prime.

@Tom: Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the evening.

@Karen: Good to hear the other group was also having a good time!

I really enjoyed the wide-ranging conversation and got good info about tech stuff as well as movies I didn't realize I NEED to see! Fun.

Helen does a superb job of keeping conversation stimulating, and yet at a level I can appreciate.

Great discussion of Paprika. Unfortunately, I woke up this morning to find Satoshi Kan has passed away: http://www.avclub.com/articles/rip-paprika-and-perfect-blue-director-satoshi-kon,44534/ Sad news, indeed.
