Hey everyone, February's cult movie night features two films starring Elizabeth Taylor. First is "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" (1958) based on Tenessee Williams' Pulitizer Prize-winning play. Paul Newman earned his first Oscar nomination for his portrayal of troubled former sports hero Brick. Taylor was also Oscar nominated for her role as Maggie the Cat, digging her claws in and holding onto life not as it is, but as she hopes it someday will be, a vivid portrait of passionate loyalty. The film is directed by Richard Brooks. Next is "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" (1966) directed by Mike Nichols. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton are malevolent marrieds Martha and George. Taylor won her second Academy Award for her role. Burton matches her as her emotionally spent spouse. George Segal and Sandy Dennis also star as another coulple straying into thir destructive path.
