use case question

Received this question from outside our local meetup, asking if I could share with  to the group:

"[I am b]uilding a web interface for an appliance and it looks like I'll need to do a lot of back and forth between the web interface and various .sh and .py scripts on the server. Calling a script from the page is simple...having the output of a script trigger changes in the page is a little more complicated. Basically, I have four or five interactions back-and-forth between the script and the webpage. I'm looking at JavaScript to Python, most likely. It's getting from Python back to JavaScript that I'm a little curious about. The constraint is that I don't get to install anything (but python is included). So, no extra libraries, etc."
