From patient-centric to human-centric in healthcare

In the healthcare industry we have been talking about a more patient-centric lens when developing new products, researching new treatments or designing clinical trials. We know that it is not only about improving the patient experience for its own sake. Today it has been proven that engaged patients achieve better outcomes.
But, is being patient-centric enough? When it comes to innovation, would a more holistic view of all stakeholders as humans, as individuals, as family members, health care providers etc, allow us to bring humanity back into patient care?
Today, examples from different companies in healthcare indicate that being only “patient-centric” might not be enough to create lasting impact in the healthcare arena. However, solutions involving the entire ecosystem shows promising results.
In this meet up, we aim to explore how human-centered design improves experiences, outcomes and increases the chance for implementing innovation in healthcare through cases brought forward from the following speakers:
- Pascal Soboll – lead of Daylight Design (European office)
Pascal has founded and now leads Daylight Design's European office. He and his team apply design (thinking) to innovate at the intersection of social change, technological advances and organisational strategy.
Prior to joining Daylight, Pascal spent 15 years at IDEO, working from the Palo Alto, London and Munich studios, most recently as associate partner.
He regularly speaks on the subject of design thinking, systems thinking, education and creative leadership. He has co-designed the curriculum at the HPI D-School in Potsdam, Germany and taught the main course there for two years.
Pascal holds a German physics 'Diplom' and a master’s degree in engineering (product design) from Stanford University.
- Renaldo Bernard – EU Marie Curie PhD Fellow at LMU München and Product Manager
Renaldo is a digital product manager passionately working at the intersection between the research, design, and development of digital health products. Given his expertise, Renaldo has been invited to consult on digital projects for agencies of the United Nations, the European Union, and CARICOM over the last few years.
Renaldo holds a Masters in Psychology and a Masters in Web Science. He will also graduate with a Ph.D. Medical Research (Digital Health) from LMU München in a few months. Renaldo will talk about designing safe digital tools for people with emotional difficulties.
- Lutz Haase – Managing Director for FTWK
Lutz is an innovation strategist, passionate about human – centered design, business model innovation and digital products and services. Together with his team at FTWK, he has been able to deliver more than 75 innovative digital prototypes, products and services for heathcare companies and beyond.
He serves as an advisor to several other healthcare startups and is an angel investor
