Introduction to Myofascial Release

Taught by David Goldeen LMT, BCTMB and ongoing educational credit provider for NCBTMB since 2012. This is a two day, 16 hour NCBTMB approved Continuing Education Class. Class instructs basic principles and practices of Myofascial Release Therapy based on the understanding that fascial restriction is an underlying component of all physical pain. The participants will have a understanding of the function of fascia and its role in chronic pain. The focus is on identification of fascial restriction through visual assessment and palpitation. Participants are instructed in basic foundational Myofascial Release therapeutic techniques, including the awareness of subtle changes in fascial tissue during treatment. There will be both a lecture and lab portions. The hands-on lab will focus on instructing and practicing proper technique and body mechanics. Learning Outcomes: The participants will be able to explain the function fascia. The participants will be able to discuss what chronic holding patterns are and how they create pain through fascial restriction. The participants will be able to identify fascial restrictions through visual assessment. The participants will be able to identify fascial restrictions through palpation. The participants will be able to perform a cross hand release. The participants will be able to preform MFR traction techniques to the cervical spine and limbs. Participants will learn basic mind centering and focusing techniques. This is to create a quiet mind and to be present in the moment without distraction which is a key component to performing MFR. Myofascial Release: Thoracic & Cervical Spine

This class expands information taught in the Introduction to Myofascial Release, with a focus on assessment and treatment techniques specific to the upper body. Focus: Techniques for treating the shoulder girdle, thoracic spine, cervical spine, jaw and common upper body symptoms. Lectures and labs deepen the understanding of how fascial tissue responds to conditions/injuries. Lectures cover client assessment and skills needed to integrate MFR techniques into practice. Labs include hands-on practice of MFR techniques including discussion of proper body mechanics for the practitioner. Students will practice identifying fascial restrictions through both palpation techniques and visual cues. Learning Outcomes: Palpate and identify fascial restrictions in the pterygoids and masseters. Identify rib head disfunction. Perform Myofascial Release compression and traction techniques to the shoulder girdle. Palpate and treat fascial restrictions in the diaphragm. Perform MFR techniques on the scalenes and other muscles on the anterior neck. Perform compression and traction techniques for the cervical spine. Palpate and treat restrictions of the occipital atlas region. Prerequisite: Intro to Myofascial Release or permission from the instructor. Myofascial Release: Balancing the Pelvis, Lumbar Spine and Pelvis

Taught by David Goldeen LMT, BCTMB and ongoing educational credit provider for NCBTMB since 2012.This is a three day, 24 hour NCBTMB approved Continuing Education Class, class will expand fundamental information taught in Goldeen MFR - Teaching Series class, “Introduction to Myofascial Release and Thoracic,Cervical Spine class” with a focus on assessment and treatment techniques specific to the low back and pelvis. Myofascial Release Approach to Balancing the Pelvis class includes both lecture and lab potions. Lectures are designed to raise questions, create dialog and deepen the understanding of how the fascial tissue performs and responds to a variety of conditions and or injuries. Lecture portion also covers proper client assessment for low back and pelvic issues as well as discussions regarding skills needed to effectively integrate MFR techniques into your practice. The lab portion includes hands on instructing and practice of proper MFR techniques. Additionally, this class includes discussion of the important of proper body mechanics for the therapist. Student understanding of fascia and the roll it plays in chronic pain will be expanded with more specific and in depth information related to treating the low back and pelvis. Students will learn advanced techniques for treating the lumbar spine, assessing and treating pelvic imbalances and torsion. Class discussion will focus on common lower body symptoms including sciatica, low back pain, plantar fasciitis. Balancing the Pelvis class will give students an opportunity to practice identifying fascial restrictions through both palpation techniques and visual cues. LEARNING OUTCOMES: Identify pelvic torsion/disfunction with an understanding of how pelvic misalignment can produce a wide range of symptom, particularly referred pain to other parts of the body. Palpate fascial restriction in the QL, Piriformis, Psoas, Hamstrings and Quads. Perform MFR techniques to treat the QL, Piriformis, Psoas, Hamstrings and Quads. Perform techniques to correct the pelvic torsion. Perform a transverse plane technique at the pelvic floor. Perform and teach self-treatment techniques for the low back and pelvis. Prerequisite: Intro to Myofascial Release or permission from the instructor.
