This month we're deeply pleased to be able to host Gemma May Potter at our February IoT Liverpool event.
Gemma May Potter is a participatory artist who embraces the use of accessible and non-intimidating materials in the development of innovative activities that combine both analogue and digital in the production of co-creative outcomes. Primarily working with museums and galleries, the core aim of Gemma’s work is to engage the public with making processes and connect them with heritage.
Exploring the relationships between the analogue and the digital, her work often takes inspiration from textiles and embraces digital tools to engage audiences. This has included the game, Minecraft, which she has been using since 2014, running a range of workshops for young people. This developed into PatternCraft, a project that is a direct development of Gemma’s interest in textile, coding and participation.
For DoES IoT, Gemma will give an overview of the tools and approaches in her work from participatory projects through to her current PhD research in which she is exploring the crossovers between gaming and traditional forms of craftsmanship.
