Apple iBeacons and Qualcomm Gimbal with Bluetooth LE

  • Mar 25, 2014 · 7:00 PM

Join Qualcomm Developer Network for a live demonstration of micro-location services, which have the potential to be 10 times what GPS location-based services currently offer.

Using Bluetooth LE (BLE 4.0), we can track very small things easily using coin-sized batteries that last for months or years.

Apple has branded their BLE technology as iBeacons. To date, Major League Baseball has outfitted 2 stadiums with them and plan to complete 18 more.

Qualcomm calls theirs BLE solution Gimbal, which is compatible with Apple and enables you to create iBeacon-enabled apps. Gimbal is a part of their context-awareness app development toolset, Charlie Karstrom

Charlie is focused on propagating the developer ecosystem for Qualcomm Retail Solutions. As part of the business development team, he works on creating new business opportunities and exposure for the Gimbal Context Awareness Platform
