In LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, director Roberto Benigni’s Academy-Award winning film, the horrors of life in a Nazi concentration camp are transformed into a world of imagination for one small boy.

Soon after a charismatic young Jewish man named Guido Orefice (played by Benigni) moves to Italy, he falls in love with a local school teacher, Dora (played by Benigni’s actual wife Nicoletta Braschi) and the two start a family while the specter of World War II looms in the background.

One day, the entire family is captured and sent to a concentration camp, and Guido decides to hide the reality of their dismal situation from their son, Joshua, by pretending it’s only part of a game. While Guido invents this fiction in order to protect his innocent child, his actions become a testament to the power of humor, ingenuity and love to overcome the darkest of times.

great movie. I'd love to see it on the big screen. But out of town.
