How do you hope to use the Italian language? Do you have a goal?

I hope to be able to learn to understand and speak Italian. I believe the only way to learn a language is to be surrounded by it and learn it through sound. I have taken basic beginner classes and am ready to start conversing.

What is your interest or connection with the Italian language or culture? Are you of Italian heritage?

I am an Italian at heart since I grew up with a "big" Italian family in my neighborhood who did everything with Italian "passion." As far as I know I have no Italian blood, but I am always being asked if I am Italian because of the way I speak and look. I take this as a compliment.

What level of Italian do you speak? How do you use the language now?

I have taken only beginning classes in basic vocabulary and grammar. I really want to begin speaking the language.

What is your favorite Italian film, book, food, music, city or vacation?

Favorite films are:"La Vita Bella" and "Il Postino." Books: Photo books of Italy since I can't read the language that well yet. I love all Italian food and music, especially Pavarotti, of course. I have never been to Italy but will get there someday. Venice sounds interesting and Sicily as well.

I am a graduate student who wants to learn Italian because I truly love the language, the food, the people and everything else Italian.

What Stephanie L. is saying about this Meetup Group

Fun and hearing the language spoken and trying to respond. Good practice. Good food always.
