For this special south meetup, we enjoy an evening with Adriana Albi Davies, one of Alberta's prolific writers and poets. She will be sharing more about the journey of integration and belonging to the two worlds of Italian and English culture. After her work on the Verdi project, we're grateful to have her join us for this special evening and would like to have you and friends join. All ages, and all levels are welcome in this English/Italian presentation. See below for more:
Adriana Albi Davies is a poet, historian, researcher, writer, curator and creator/editor of the Alberta Online Encyclopedia. She received the Order of Canada in 2010 for services to heritage. Adriana has collaborated with Brian Webb and Tania Alvarado on “Love Story,” a dance performance based on her poems “The Dark Elegies,” which are included in her anthology Changing my Skin. As a performance poet, she appears as part of the “Trio con Brio” with poet Pierrette Requier and poet/musician Alison Grant-Preville. Most recently, she created, wrote and produced “The Hidden Verdi: Lovers and Daughters,” a performance involving Verdi arias, poetry and text. She performed with singers and musicians. Adriana is a proud mother and grandmother.
Adriana’s Italian ancestry has influenced her writing both in terms of the immigration experience but also the fact that the English and Italian languages have shaped her sensibility. As a spoken word poet, performing alone and as part of a trio, she has explored intermingling the two languages for dramatic effect. She will be reading from her unpublished prose memoir and also poems that explore the themes of alienation and belonging in the two languages.
