  • A 6-week program of 3-hour classes (every two weeks) (Part 1 of II) Dates and times may change  - Maximum 8 students.

Previously treatable bacterial diseases are now becoming resistant to antibiotic measures, due in large part to the massive use of antibiotics in factory farms and overuse in conventional medicine . This is a hands-on course of study based on the book, "Herbal Antibiotics, Natural Alternatives for treating Drug-Resitant Bacteria" by Stephen Harrod Buhner. Over an 8-week period we will study the main resistant organisms, according to Buhner, and the diseases they cause, and how to create homemade herbal remedies with proven antibiotic actions. Wherever possible, we will forage for our own wild herbs and process them together, creating a unique and viable reserve of natural herbal remedies for personal use. Nine plant groups will be covered.

Each session will be 3 hours long; sometimes indoors and other times in the field. There may be some extra costs for materials as well as you may need to provide your own alcohol or other material for making tinctures.

I am accepting 8* students to work with me in this program. No previous experience is required; all we ask is for enthusiasm, fairness, respect and equality in the group. (*Meetup will show as "9 Going" because they include me in their count - so it's me and 8 students).

Note: This is a course for regular people interested in taking charge of their knowledge and health. This is not an herbalism course per se, and I am not an herbalist. I will not pretend to diagnose or cure medical issues, or to make claims beyond my scope of knowledge. However, I have worked with herbs and wild plants for over 10 years and I believe in their power to help us. Herbology is the art of following herbal traditions as a layman - this is what I do and what you can do, too. Please look up my bio if you have any questions, or feel free to contact me.

**A deposit of $75 is required within 2 weeks of your RSVP. To make a deposit using e-transfer, or to purchase by credit card over the phone, click here. The remaining $175 can be paid on the first day of the program. Thank you!

Hi Aerial, I'm sorry you are getting all these notifications, however, this is in your own settings and something that you'll need to change yourself - I have no control over your settings. On the bright side, it's very easy to change: Go to "My Profile" (on the right side of the green top bar of this page); next, click onto the "Email and Notifications" button. You'll now see a page with checkboxes where you can customize what you want to be notified about. You can do this for any group you are a member of! Meetup does somewhat overdo it on the notifications, I agree! Good luck!

Hi there, I asked a question here one time. Since then I am getting an email for every question asked by someone. How do I stop that please.

Just to let you know, the new, bi-weekly session of 6 classes gives you 2 extra hours of class-time for the same price. Classes run 3 hours rather than 2 hours.

HI I am just reviewing your changes and noticed you mentioned two different things- 8 sessions right beside the cost and then up top 6 weeks. I would prefer it be kept at 8 weeks. Just need to look at a calendar to see the start and even dates unless you post them?

      Hi Donna,

      October 20

    • jennie

I changed it to 6 weeks because it will be every second week. Instead of 2-hour classes, we will have 3-hour classes. That's 2 extra hours of class time. I updated the details and clearly missed updating that one spot so thanks for the heads up. All the classes will be on Sunday's at the same time; they will be at different locations as we follow where the plants are.

I've tentatively changed the date, to 3-hour classes every second Sunday starting April 3, 1-4pm. Keep up the feedback so I can do my best to accommodate those who are interested.

Sundays would work perfectly for me: easy travel into Oakville & no need to take time off work

Hi Jennie, will all of the classes be at night?

    1 · October 17

    • jennie

Hi Deborah - there is a chance the classes will change time to a weekend day - this is dependent on my childcare situation. Certain harvesting days can and should be on a weekend so we can pick at the right time of day. Are you unable to do evenings?

      October 17

    • jennie

I tentatively changed the date. We'll see if this is more convenient for everyone interested and if I can arrange for my family. Thanks for your feedback!

Hi there would be interested in this program if it was a 2 weekend affair. I live in the east side of Toronto and trying to go to Oakvillle at night during the week through rush hour traffic is not an option. The driving alone can be 1.5 -2 hours getting there and then 30 minutes back.

    • jennie

Good point! I'll consider changing the days to a weekend.

      October 17

    • jennie

      Just tentatively changed the date.

Please note I've changed the date to April 2017.
