UPDATE: Hi everyone, we finished our current run of classes with our first (amazing) performance at comedy Fukuoka's 2 Year Anniversary show. We are still going strong but there will not be new classes to April now. I hope all those wanting to join will be up for starting then. Can't wait to see you all. Until then SAY YES!
Improv Fukuoka is a new group hoping to bring Improv comedy to Fukuoka. We will be putting on workshops every Monday night from October 17th to December 5th with an aim to putting on a show during or soon after that time. No experience is necessary. However, equally, if you have done any kind of improv or theatre before, then your experience and expertise would be more than welcome. Some talented people have already committed to join, so please come and join us!
What will we learn?
Well, basically, how to improvise. We will practice together through exercises designed to hone our skills in agreement, spontaneity, listening and laughter. We will work towards being confident in a simple but engaging form of long form, performance style improv. We will also practice and become confident in a few fun short form improv games.
Fukuoka, Tenjin, close to Akasaka Station
Stephen Case, a Fukuoka comedy regular and a man with ideas above his station, will run the workshops based on the training and experience he has received in New York. However, this will be a collaborative effort with everyone helping and learning from each other.
Because Improv is great fun! It is a no pressure art form where almost everything you do is always right. It is a great place to gain performance, confidence and people skills. Also, there are the perks of being a comedy Fukuoka member. What else are you doing on Monday night?
Do I have to go on stage if I come to classes?
No, of course not. But why wouldn't you? No one ever regrets it!
Do I have to come to every class?
No, but if you would like to perform you it really is necessary to come to at least six classes.
Can I just come along and see if it is for me?
Of course, please do!
What if English isn't my first language?
Not a problem as long as you can communicate and understand! Give it a try!
